Bob/others -Not all engines are tight enough to handle synthetic. I have been using Castrol 10W40 synthetic until my most recent oil change just a few days ago. I switched back to my old cycle standard of Quaker State 10W40 and guess what - no more oil leak! A dealer friend of mine years ago told me one time synthetic is great but not all engines are sealed well enough to handle it. Particularly, he said, with vertically split cases which the Savage has. This recent experiment was quite enlightening to me!
